Uttarakhand Accelerates Road and Rail Expansion with Major Projects Nearing Completion
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has said that the state is witnessing rapid infrastructure growth under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, with several major road and rail projects expected to be completed within the next year.
According to the Chief Minister’s Office, projects worth nearly ₹1.3 lakh crore are currently underway across Uttarakhand with support from the central government. Dhami said the Prime Minister has emphasized that modern roads are the lifeline of any state, and this vision is driving large-scale expansion in Uttarakhand’s transport network.
Among the key upcoming milestones is the planned inauguration of the first phase of the Karnaprayag railway line by the end of this year, expected to significantly boost tourism and pilgrimage in the hill state. Dhami also highlighted the impact of the Delhi–Dehradun Economic Corridor, saying the reduced travel time between Delhi and Dehradun to just two and a half hours has already improved commuter experience.
Several highway projects are nearing completion, including the Paonta Sahib–Dehradun four-lane highway, built at a cost of ₹1,650 crore, which is expected to open next month. A 51-km six-lane highway connecting Saharanpur Bypass to Haridwar is slated to become operational in June.
The first phase of the Haridwar Bypass, a ₹1,600 crore project considered crucial for the upcoming Kumbh Mela, is progressing rapidly and is expected to be completed by October. Construction on the ₹1,100 crore Rishikesh Bypass is likely to begin in August, while the 12-km Jhajra–Asha Rodi elevated road project, costing ₹716 crore, is targeted for completion by April next year.
