Several Feared Trapped After Bridge Slab Collapse in Uttar Pradesh
A severe storm triggered the collapse of a slab at an under-construction bridge in Hamirpur district of Uttar Pradesh, killing five workers and trapping several others beneath the debris. Rescue operations by SDRF teams are continuing.
A tragic accident occurred in Hamirpur after a portion of an under-construction bridge collapsed during a severe storm, resulting in the deaths of five workers and leaving several others feared trapped beneath the debris.
According to Additional Superintendent of Police Arvind Kumar Verma, authorities received information about the collapse around 2 a.m., following which police and emergency response teams rushed to the site.
Verma said a bridge slab had collapsed, trapping workers underneath. Rescue operations were immediately launched, and teams from the State Disaster Response Force reached the location to assist in search and recovery efforts.
Officials confirmed that the bodies of five workers have been recovered and identified so far. Rescue teams continue to clear debris and search for any additional workers who may still be trapped.
Following the incident, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath took immediate cognizance of the tragedy and directed senior officials to reach the accident site without delay.
According to the Chief Minister’s Office, instructions were issued to intensify relief and rescue operations in coordination with SDRF personnel and ensure that injured persons receive proper medical treatment.
The Chief Minister also directed officials to provide appropriate compensation to the families of those who lost their lives and to maintain direct contact with the affected families to extend all possible assistance.
Authorities are expected to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collapse, including the impact of adverse weather conditions and construction safety measures at the site.
