Guwahati High Court Rejects Pre-Arrest Bail for Congress Leader
The Guwahati High Court has rejected the anticipatory bail plea of Pawan Khera in a case linked to allegations made against Riniki Bhuyan Sharma.
Speaking after the court order, Devajit Lon Saikia said that on April 5, Khera had addressed two press conferences — one at the Indian National Congress headquarters in New Delhi and another in Guwahati.
According to Saikia, Khera, in his capacity as Congress media head, made serious allegations against Riniki Bhuyan Sharma, claiming she owned real estate in United Arab Emirates and the United States, and held investments worth ₹52,000 crore. He also allegedly displayed documents including passports and a UAE golden card during the media briefing.
Saikia said a complaint was lodged with Assam Police the same night, following which an investigation was initiated. He added that the next morning, Himanta Biswa Sarma publicly dismissed the allegations as fabricated.
The Advocate General further claimed that police later found the golden card shown at the press conference allegedly belonged to a Pakistani national who had reported it missing on March 28, days before the press conference.
The matter remains under legal and investigative process.
