West Bengal Legislators Begin Review of Health and Education Systems
Newly elected Bharatiya Janata Party MLAs in West Bengal carried out inspections of government hospitals and held meetings with senior bureaucrats to discuss reforms in the health and education sectors.
Newly elected legislators of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in West Bengal on Monday conducted spot inspections at state-run hospitals and held meetings with bureaucrats overseeing the health and education departments.
According to party sources, the exercise was aimed at identifying problems and initiating plans to “revamp” the two sectors.
BJP MLAs Swapan Dasgupta and Shankar Ghosh met senior officials of the state education department at Bikash Bhavan in Salt Lake.
At the same time, a separate team of eight BJP legislators held discussions with officers and bureaucrats of the health department at Swasthya Bhavan.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Shankar Ghosh said there had been a “visible deterioration” in the state-run education system over the past few years.
He stated that the party intended to improve the sector and work towards a restructured and strengthened education system in the near future.
Party sources said the meetings focused on infrastructure, administrative functioning, service delivery, staffing, and quality-related issues in both education and healthcare.
The visits come shortly after the BJP formed its first government in West Bengal following the 2026 Assembly elections.
Officials indicated that similar review exercises may be conducted in other sectors as part of the new government’s administrative assessment and reform agenda.
