West Bengal Begins Administrative Preparations for Census 2027
The West Bengal government has appointed officials at divisional and district levels to oversee preparations for the proposed Census of India 2027, according to an official notification.
The West Bengal government has appointed Census Officers for the proposed Census of India 2027, an official said on Tuesday.
According to a notification issued by the state’s Home and Hill Affairs Department, Divisional Commissioners have been designated as Divisional Census Officers for their respective regions.
District Magistrates will function as Principal Census Officers, while Additional District Magistrates have been appointed as District Census Officers across districts.
The notification further stated that District Planning Officers, District Statistical Officers, District Informatics Officers and District Education Officers, among others, have been assigned the role of Additional District Census Officers.
The appointments are part of the administrative groundwork being undertaken ahead of the nationwide census exercise scheduled for 2027. The census process involves large-scale coordination between state administrations and the central government for data collection related to population, housing and demographic trends.
The Census of India is considered one of the largest administrative exercises globally and plays a crucial role in policy planning, welfare schemes, resource allocation and electoral delimitation.
