Government Engineer Held in West Bengal for Alleged Corruption in Construction Bill
A sub-assistant engineer posted in West Bengal’s Jhargram district has been arrested by the Anti-Corruption Branch after he was allegedly caught accepting a ₹2 lakh bribe to release payment for a completed government construction project
A government engineer in West Bengal’s Jhargram district was arrested on Thursday for allegedly accepting a ₹2 lakh bribe to clear the payment for a government construction project. The arrest was made following a trap operation conducted by the Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) after a formal complaint was lodged by a sub-contractor.
The accused, Bimal Saha, was serving as a sub-assistant engineer at the Jamboni Block Development Office. Officials said he was caught red-handed while allegedly accepting the bribe that was reportedly demanded for approving and releasing the pending bill.
According to the complaint, the construction of a sub-health centre had already been completed, but payment was allegedly withheld. The complainant claimed that Saha demanded ₹2 lakh in exchange for clearing the bill. Acting on the complaint, the ACB laid a trap and arrested the engineer during the alleged transaction. Further investigation into the case is underway.
