Thunderstorms, Very Heavy Rain Likely in Northeast This Week
India Meteorological Department has forecast fairly widespread to widespread rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds, with heavy to very heavy rainfall likely over Sub Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim and the northeastern region during the week.
The department said isolated extremely heavy rainfall was recorded today over Assam, Meghalaya and Sub Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim.
Maximum temperatures remained between 40 and 46 degrees Celsius across most parts of the country, except the western Himalayan region, northeast Bihar and northeast India, where temperatures stayed below 36 degrees Celsius. The highest maximum temperature of 45.6 degrees Celsius was recorded at Banda.
Light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms and gusty winds is likely over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi tomorrow and from May 2 to May 5.
Meanwhile, heatwave conditions are expected in parts of Vidarbha today and in West Rajasthan from May 1 to May 3. Hot and humid weather is also likely in isolated areas of Odisha from today till May 1.
