Riverside Areas on Alert as Heavy Showers Predicted

India Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall till May 1, prompting authorities to urge residents to remain cautious.

The department has also predicted gusty winds with speeds of 50 to 60 kmph during the warning period.

Citing the possibility of flash floods, the administration of East Khasi Hills has asked people to exercise extra caution during spells of heavy rain.

Officials said areas located near rivers and streams are particularly vulnerable to flash flooding.

The public has been advised to stay alert, avoid risky locations, and take all necessary precautions to ensure safety.

The warning comes as several parts of the Northeast continue to witness active pre-monsoon weather conditions.
