Heavy Rainfall Triggers Multiple Landslides in Mizoram, No Casualties Reported
Heavy rainfall has triggered multiple landslides across several districts of Mizoram, damaging infrastructure and disrupting road traffic. While no casualties have been reported, authorities have urged commuters to remain cautious as continuous rain raises the risk of further landslides.
Recent heavy rainfall in Mizoram has caused minor damage across several districts, with multiple landslides reported in Aizawl, Champhai, Lawngtlai, and Hnahthial. According to the State Disaster Management and Rehabilitation Department, no casualties or injuries have been reported despite the adverse weather conditions.
In Aizawl, a house at Bungkawn was evacuated after a roadside landslide threatened the building. Landslides also occurred near Chhungte on the Aizawl–Champhai highway, at Dilkawn, between Thingfal and Thingkah in Lawngtlai district, and at Tarpho in Hnahthial district, leading to traffic disruptions. Authorities have advised motorists to exercise caution, warning that persistent rainfall could trigger additional landslides.
Officials said debris from a landslide at Sailiamkawn slope near Kawlni Filling Station on the Serchhip–Thenzawl road has not yet been fully cleared due to continuous rainfall and ongoing ground movement. Meanwhile, roads connecting Lunglei and Chawngte, and Thuampui and Vanhne, remain blocked by landslides. However, routes to Ṭawipui South, Bualte, Dawn, and Thingfal have been reopened for traffic after clearance operations.
