UPSC Introduces Early Release of Provisional Answer Key for Prelims
The Union Public Service Commission has published the provisional answer key for the Civil Services Preliminary Examination 2026 ahead of the final results for the first time, allowing candidates to submit objections and supporting evidence through an online portal until May 31.
The Union Public Service Commission on Wednesday released the provisional answer key for the Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination 2026, marking the first time the commission has issued the answer key before announcing the final examination results.
In an official statement, the commission informed candidates that they may submit representations or objections regarding the provisional answer key through the dedicated online platform named “Online Question Paper Representation Portal (QPRep)” available on the UPSC online website.
According to the notification, candidates can raise objections until 6 pm on May 31. The commission clarified that every representation must include the answer considered correct by the candidate, along with a brief explanation and documentary support from at least three authentic sources.
The move is being viewed as a significant step toward enhancing transparency and candidate participation in the examination evaluation process. Traditionally, UPSC released answer keys only after the entire Civil Services Examination process, including interviews and final results, had concluded.
The Civil Services Examination is one of India’s most competitive recruitment tests and is conducted annually for selection into prestigious services such as the Indian Administrative Service, Indian Police Service, and Indian Foreign Service.
Candidates are advised to carefully review the provisional answers and submit their representations within the prescribed deadline through the official portal only.
