South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL), a subsidiary of Coal India Limited, on Tuesday reiterated its commitment to fulfilling the nation’s growing energy requirements amid record-high electricity demand caused by severe heatwave conditions.

SECL Chairman-cum-Managing Director Harish Duhan stated that during the ongoing financial year 2026-27, the company has contributed 26.86 million tonnes toward Coal India’s production milestone of 100 million tonnes achieved so far.

Duhan emphasised that the company remains focused on ensuring uninterrupted coal supply to the power sector under the guidance of the Ministry of Coal.

India has been witnessing a sharp rise in electricity consumption due to prolonged heatwave conditions across several states, increasing pressure on thermal power plants and coal supply chains. Coal continues to play a dominant role in India’s electricity generation mix, especially during peak summer demand periods.

South Eastern Coalfields Limited is one of the largest coal-producing subsidiaries of Coal India and plays a crucial role in supplying fuel to thermal power stations across the country.

The company’s production performance is considered important for maintaining energy security and ensuring stable electricity availability during periods of elevated demand.
