West Bengal BJP president Samik Bhattacharya has said the state government wants the Tata Group to return to Singur, arguing that such a move would boost industrial growth and send a strong message that West Bengal is once again open and welcoming to investors.

Samik Bhattacharya has said that the state government is keen to bring the Tata Group back to Singur, describing the move as both an economic imperative and a symbolic step toward restoring investor confidence in West Bengal.

In an interview discussing the BJP government’s industrial vision following its electoral victory in the state, Bhattacharya said that encouraging the Tatas to return to Singur would help reverse the negative perception created after the exit of the Tata Nano project nearly two decades ago.

“We want the Tatas to come back, and that too in Singur. We want to send a message to the entire country and the world that West Bengal is investor-friendly and is ready to welcome investments,” Bhattacharya said.

Singur became a focal point of national political debate in the late 2000s when land acquisition controversies led to the relocation of the Tata Nano manufacturing project from the Hooghly township. The episode was widely viewed as a setback for industrialisation efforts in the state.

Bhattacharya said a return by the Tata Group would not only generate employment and industrial activity but also serve as a strong signal to domestic and international investors that West Bengal is committed to creating a business-friendly environment.

The BJP leadership has repeatedly emphasized industrial growth, infrastructure development, and investment promotion as key priorities for the state’s economic future.

Industry observers note that any major investment by the Tata Group in Singur would carry substantial symbolic value, given the historical significance of the site in India’s industrial and political landscape.

While no formal proposal from the Tata Group has been announced, the statement highlights the government’s intention to actively pursue large-scale industrial investments and reposition West Bengal as a major manufacturing destination.
