Bengal Govt Plans Large-Scale International Yoga Day Celebrations
Suvendu Adhikari announced that the West Bengal government will participate in a nationwide programme from June 5 to June 21, featuring tree plantation drives, public welfare camps and International Yoga Day activities.
West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Tuesday said the West Bengal government will actively participate in a national programme announced by the Government of India to be observed between June 5 and June 21.
Speaking in Nadia district, the Chief Minister said a large-scale tree plantation campaign would be organised on June 5 across all blocks and municipalities in the state. Under the initiative, trees will be planted in the name of mothers, and all MLAs will receive fruit-bearing saplings from the Forest and Environment Departments.
He further stated that public welfare camps will be organised on June 15, 16 and 17 as part of directives issued by the Centre. The administration has been instructed not to conduct these camps in schools to avoid disruption of academic activities.
According to Adhikari, MLAs and MPs will serve as chief guests and inaugurators at these events, where citizens will be informed about ongoing and upcoming welfare schemes of both the central and state governments.
On June 21, the state’s AYUSH Department, functioning under the health department, will collaborate with the sports department to organise celebrations for International Yoga Day.
The Chief Minister noted that the state had remained detached from the initiative in previous years but has now fully integrated itself into the programme. He added that yoga events would be conducted according to AYUSH protocols and would include a two-day rehearsal period before the main observance.
The programme is expected to combine environmental awareness, public outreach and health-focused activities across the state during the two-week observance period.
