Fuel Prices Rise Again, Petrol and Diesel Up Nearly ₹5 per Litre in 10 Days
Petrol and diesel prices were increased again on Saturday by up to 91 paise per litre, taking the cumulative hike in retail fuel rates to nearly ₹5 per litre within less than 10 days. State-owned oil companies cited rising international crude oil prices, higher refining costs, and a weakening rupee as key reasons behind the sharp increase.
Petrol and diesel prices were raised again across India on Saturday, marking another significant increase in fuel costs amid continued pressure from global crude oil markets. The latest revision pushed petrol prices higher by 87 paise per litre and diesel prices up by as much as 91 paise per litre, according to industry sources.
With the latest hike, cumulative increases in fuel prices have reached nearly ₹5 per litre within less than 10 days, following multiple upward revisions by state-owned oil marketing companies since May 15.
Industry officials said the continued rise in fuel prices comes after a prolonged period during which retail rates remained frozen despite volatility in global oil markets. The recent adjustments are being attributed to soaring international crude oil prices, tightening refining margins, and the weakening of the Indian rupee against the US dollar, all of which have significantly increased the cost of petroleum imports.
The rise in global energy prices has been linked to geopolitical tensions in West Asia, which have disrupted market stability and fuelled concerns over supply constraints. Analysts believe the ongoing volatility in crude oil prices could continue to impact domestic fuel rates in the coming weeks.
The repeated increase in petrol and diesel prices is expected to affect transportation, logistics, and household expenses, potentially adding to inflationary pressures across sectors dependent on fuel consumption.
