Critically acclaimed debut feature Shape of Momo by filmmaker Tribeny Rai is scheduled for theatrical release in India and Nepal on May 29 through Spirit Media.

The film has drawn attention in the independent cinema circuit for its intimate storytelling and emotional exploration of family relationships set against the backdrop of the Himalayan region.

Acclaimed filmmaker and Cannes winner Payal Kapadia, along with filmmakers Zoya Akhtar and Reema Kagti, have joined the project as executive producers.

Set in a village in Sikkim, the film traces the lives of women across generations within a single family, exploring emotional inheritance, silence, memory, and the subtle negotiations of everyday life.

The story also reflects on the complex relationship people share with the idea of “home” — portrayed both as a source of belonging and, at times, a space that can limit personal freedom and growth.

The film’s regional setting and layered narrative have been praised for offering an authentic and nuanced portrayal of life in the Himalayan landscape.

The backing of prominent filmmakers and Spirit Media is expected to help the film reach wider audiences in India and Nepal following its festival acclaim.
