Above-Normal Heatwave Days Likely Across Parts of India in May
Foothills of Himalayas, east coast, Gujarat and Maharashtra expected to face higher heat stress
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast above-normal heatwave days in several parts of the country during May, raising concerns over rising temperatures and heat-related risks.
According to the IMD’s monthly outlook, regions likely to experience more heatwave days include the foothills of the Himalayas, east coast states, as well as parts of Gujarat and Maharashtra.

The forecast suggests that these areas could see prolonged periods of high temperatures, potentially impacting public health, agriculture, and daily life. Authorities may step up advisories urging people to stay hydrated, avoid peak afternoon heat, and take necessary precautions.
The warning comes as India enters the peak summer period, with temperatures already trending above seasonal averages in several regions.
