The Union Cabinet has approved the creation of a domestic insurance pool named the Bharat Maritime Insurance Pool with a sovereign guarantee of ₹12,980 crore to ensure uninterrupted maritime insurance coverage for Indian trade. It will cover risks such as Hull and Machinery, Cargo, Protection and Indemnity, and War Risk.
The Cabinet also approved an additional 2 per cent increase in Dearness Allowance for central government employees and Dearness Relief for pensioners with effect from January 1, raising the rate from 58 per cent.
