At least five people, including four women and one man, were killed and around 20 others injured after a passenger bus met with a serious accident in Arghakhanchi district on Tuesday.

According to police officials, the bus was carrying nearly 30 passengers and was returning to Parbat district after a pilgrimage visit to the Supa Deurali Temple.

The vehicle reportedly lost control near Durgaphant Kudule in Panini Rural Municipality-8 before veering off the road and plunging nearly 100 metres down a slope.

Rescue operations were launched immediately with the joint efforts of local residents and police personnel. Injured passengers were pulled from the wreckage and shifted to the District Hospital in Arghakhanchi and Mission Hospital in Palpa for medical treatment.

Authorities are investigating the exact cause of the accident, while officials fear the casualty toll could rise as several injured passengers remain in critical condition.

Road accidents are relatively common in Nepal’s hilly regions, where narrow mountain roads, difficult terrain, and unpredictable weather conditions often pose major risks for travellers.
