Defence Minister Rajnath Singh today reviewed the evolving situation in West Asia and assessed India’s preparedness during an informal meeting of a Group of Ministers in New Delhi.

The meeting was attended by External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, Union Minister J. P. Nadda, Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, Ports Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and other senior ministers.

Rajnath Singh described the regional situation as uncertain and volatile, stating that India must remain prepared for both de-escalation and any possible escalation. He said the government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi is taking swift measures to reduce risks arising from the conflict.

Among the key decisions highlighted was the approval of the Bharat Maritime Insurance Pool to ensure Indian ships and cargo continue receiving affordable insurance while passing through risky sea routes.

The ministers were also informed that India currently has more than 60 days of crude oil, petrol, diesel and aviation fuel stocks, around 50 days of LNG reserves, and nearly 40 days of LPG supply. To reduce dependence on the Strait of Hormuz, India has diversified imports from countries such as the United States, Australia and Latin American regions.
