PM Modi Receives Sweden’s Highest Honour for Heads of Government
Prime Minister Narendra Modi held delegation-level talks with Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson in Gothenburg, where he was also awarded Sweden’s prestigious Royal Order of Polar Star Commander Grand Cross.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is holding delegation-level discussions with Ulf Kristersson in Gothenburg during the third leg of his ongoing five-nation tour.
According to officials, the two sides are exploring opportunities to deepen cooperation in several strategic and emerging sectors, including trade, green transition, artificial intelligence, advanced technologies, startups, resilient supply chains, defence, space, climate action, and people-to-people engagement.
During the visit, Sweden also conferred the Royal Order of the Polar Star Commander Grand Cross upon Prime Minister Modi.
Officials described the honour as Sweden’s highest recognition that can be awarded to a Head of Government.
The recognition marks the 31st international honour received by Prime Minister Modi during his tenure.
The visit is aimed at strengthening bilateral relations between India and Sweden, particularly in innovation-driven and sustainability-focused sectors.
India and Sweden have steadily expanded cooperation in areas such as clean technology, smart manufacturing, green energy, defence collaboration, digital innovation, and industrial partnerships in recent years.
Officials said the talks are expected to further strengthen economic and strategic engagement between the two countries while enhancing collaboration between businesses, research institutions, and technology sectors.
