India Condemns Attacks on Shipping, Urges Safe Navigation in Strait of Hormuz
India’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Parvathaneni Harish, has expressed deep concern over the ongoing conflict in Iran and the Gulf region, calling on all parties to exercise restraint and prioritise civilian safety. Speaking at the UN, he emphasised the need for dialogue, diplomacy, and de-escalation, while urging respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all nations.
India also strongly condemned the targeting of commercial shipping during the conflict, highlighting that Indian seafarers have lost their lives in recent attacks. Harish stressed that disrupting global trade routes and endangering civilian crew members is unacceptable and violates international law. He called for the immediate restoration of safe and unimpeded navigation and commerce through the strategically crucial Strait of Hormuz.
