IndiGo to Launch Non-Stop International Service from Gaya to Bangkok
The Bihar government has approved the launch of direct international flights between Gaya and Bangkok to strengthen global air connectivity from the state. The service will be operated by IndiGo for an initial period of 12 months and is expected to boost tourism, pilgrimage travel, and regional economic activity.
The Bihar cabinet on Wednesday approved a proposal allowing IndiGo to operate direct flights on the Gaya-Bangkok route for a period of 12 months. The move is aimed at improving international air connectivity from Bihar and promoting tourism and business travel.
The decision was taken during a cabinet meeting chaired by Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary. According to officials, the proposal from the state’s civil aviation department received formal approval from the cabinet.
As per the approved proposal, InterGlobe Aviation Limited was selected on a nomination basis after emerging as the sole bidder for operating the non-stop international air service on the route. The direct service is expected to significantly improve accessibility for international travellers visiting Bihar, especially Buddhist pilgrims travelling to Bodh Gaya and nearby religious destinations.
The new air link is also likely to provide economic benefits by encouraging tourism, hospitality, and related business activities in the region. Gaya serves as one of the major spiritual and cultural centres in India and attracts thousands of international visitors annually, particularly from Southeast Asian countries.
Officials believe the initiative will strengthen Bihar’s aviation infrastructure and support the state government’s broader efforts to expand international connectivity and tourism opportunities.
