Ahead of the Shri Amarnath Yatra 2026, the Indian Army organised a training programme for Village Defence Groups in Ramban to strengthen local security preparedness and coordination along the pilgrimage route.

Officials said the initiative focused on enhancing vigilance, improving emergency response capabilities, and increasing cooperation between local residents and security agencies to ensure the safe and smooth movement of pilgrims travelling to the holy Amarnath cave shrine.

The programme included training related to security awareness, rapid response during emergencies, communication coordination, and support mechanisms during the yatra period.

According to officials, the effort aims to build stronger collaboration between security forces and local communities in vulnerable areas along the pilgrimage corridor.

The training drive in Ramban forms part of broader preparations underway in Jammu and Kashmir for the peaceful and secure conduct of the annual pilgrimage, which attracts thousands of devotees from across the country every year.

Security agencies have been intensifying surveillance, coordination, and preparedness measures ahead of the yatra in view of the challenging terrain and security sensitivities in the region.
