India Advances Defence Self-Reliance with New Armoured Systems
The Advanced Armoured Platforms (Tracked and Wheeled), designed and developed by Vehicles Research & Development Establishment, were unveiled by Dr Samir V Kamat at the DRDO laboratory premises in Ahilyanagar on April 25, 2026.
The new-generation platforms have been developed to meet the emerging operational requirements of the Indian Armed Forces.
Both the tracked and wheeled variants are equipped with an indigenously designed and developed 30 mm crewless turret featuring advanced systems aimed at enhancing mobility, firepower, and battlefield protection.
The vehicles are powered by high-performance engines with automatic transmission, providing a strong power-to-weight ratio, higher speeds, and improved capability to negotiate gradients and obstacles.
Officials said the platforms offer STANAG Level 4 and Level 5 protection, along with modular blast and ballistic shielding for all-round defence.
The armoured systems are also amphibious and include hydro jets for improved water obstacle crossing, adding greater operational flexibility across varied terrains.
The unveiling marks another step forward in India’s push for indigenous defence technology and self-reliance in military platforms.
