Indian Lifters Continue Strong Showing at Gandhinagar Event
Indian weightlifter Gyaneshwari Yadav secured two medals at the Asian Senior Weightlifting Championships in Gandhinagar on Wednesday, winning a silver and a bronze in the women’s 53kg category.
Gyaneshwari claimed the silver medal in the snatch section before earning an overall bronze medal with a combined lift of 194 kilograms.
China’s Jinlan Zhao won the gold medal in the category with a total lift of 216 kilograms, while Vietnam’s Hoai Huong Nguyen secured silver with a total of 195 kilograms.
India had opened its medal tally earlier in the tournament through Komal Kohar, who won a bronze medal in the women’s 48kg category on Monday.
The championships are being held at the Mahatma Mandir Convention and Exhibition Centre and feature 178 weightlifters from 28 Asian nations along with two Commonwealth countries.
The tournament also serves as a qualifying event for the 2026 Commonwealth Games, making it a crucial competition for athletes aiming to secure international berths.
