AGARTALA: The Tripura government plans to accord a grand reception to Asmita Dey, who won a gold medal in judo at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, during her two-day visit to her home state beginning Wednesday.
According to Director of Youth Affairs and Sports L Darlong, the felicitation event will be organised at Rabindra Bhavan in Agartala. The state government is preparing to honour the athlete for her achievement on the international sporting stage.
Dey has created history by becoming the first Indian judoka to win a gold medal at the Commonwealth Games, marking a significant achievement for Indian judo and Tripura.
The reception is expected to celebrate Dey’s accomplishment and recognise her contribution to Indian sport while inspiring young athletes in the state to pursue excellence in competitive sports.
