Around seven lakh new voters have been added to the electoral rolls in West Bengal ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections, according to officials. The fresh additions are expected to play a key role in the closely watched state polls.

Election officials said nearly 3.22 lakh of these new voters will cast their ballots in the first phase of polling, while the remaining around 3.88 lakh voters will vote in the second phase.

The Election Commission of India has not yet released the age-wise or gender-wise break-up of the newly added electorate. It has also not specified how many among them are first-time voters who have recently turned 18.
