Donald Trump and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi have announced that the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz is fully open to commercial shipping.

In a social media statement, Araghchi said passage for all commercial vessels through the strait has been restored in line with the ceasefire in Lebanon. He added that ships must follow a coordinated route established by Iran’s Ports and Maritime Organisation.

Shortly afterwards, Trump also confirmed that Iran had declared the Strait of Hormuz open for full maritime passage. The development comes a day after the U.S. President announced a 10-day ceasefire between Lebanon and Israel, raising hopes of easing tensions in the wider West Asia region.
