Tamil Nadu Election in Two Days: 75,064 Polling Stations Ready
In Tamil Nadu, polling is just two days away, with voters set to elect representatives for all 234 constituencies in a single-phase election on April 23.
Chief Electoral Officer Archana Patnaik said a total of 5,73,43,291 voters are eligible to cast their votes. She added that 75,064 polling stations have been set up across the state.
As polling day falls on a Thursday, a public holiday and paid leave have been declared for employees of establishments and government offices to enable them to vote.
The CEO said 7,014 micro-observers have been deployed to monitor preparedness and ensure a free and fair voting process. The Election Commission of India has also appointed 136 general observers, 40 police observers, and 150 expenditure observers.
Security arrangements include deployment of 300 companies of the Central Armed Police Force, more than 83,000 police personnel, and over 40,000 non-police staff across the state.
Authorities have also seized valuables worth ₹1,212 crore, including cash, liquor, drugs, precious metals, and other items. Of this, ₹495 crore has been released after submission of valid documents.
