Strong Start to Bengal Final Phase Polling, Turnout Nears 19% by 9 AM

A total of 18.39 per cent of 3.21 crore eligible voters cast their ballots in the first two hours of polling for 142 constituencies in the second and final phase of the West Bengal Assembly Election 2026, a senior Election Commission of India official said.

Polling began at 7 am across key districts of West Bengal, with brisk voter participation reported till 9 am.

Purba Bardhaman recorded the highest turnout at 20.86 per cent, followed by Hooghly at 20.16 per cent.

Other districts reporting turnout included Nadia at 18.5 per cent, North 24 Parganas at 17.81 per cent, Kolkata Uttar at 17.28 per cent, South 24 Parganas at 17.25 per cent and Kolkata Dakshin at 16.81 per cent.

Authorities expect turnout to rise steadily as polling progresses through the day.
