Kerala Chief Minister-designate V D Satheesan on Sunday described himself as a “Nehruvian socialist” and said that minimising inconvenience to the public was one of the main reasons behind his decision to maintain a smaller security convoy.

Satheesan made the remarks shortly after announcing the names of 20 Cabinet ministers who are scheduled to be sworn in along with him on Monday.

Responding to questions regarding the size of the chief minister’s convoy, Satheesan said he had instructed the police to keep the escort arrangement limited, although certain mandatory security protocols would still need to be followed.

He indicated that public convenience and reducing traffic disruption were important considerations in the decision.

The incoming Kerala government is expected to formally assume office after the swearing-in ceremony, with the newly announced Cabinet set to begin administrative responsibilities immediately afterward.

Satheesan’s comments on maintaining a smaller convoy have drawn attention as discussions around VIP culture, official security arrangements, and public inconvenience continue to remain subjects of political debate across the country.
