Political Shake-Up in Nepal as Home Minister Resigns
Sudan Gurung has resigned from his post, citing moral responsibility and the need for a fair and transparent investigation into concerns raised over his financial holdings.
In a social media statement, Gurung said he had served honestly as Home Minister since Chaitra 13, 2082, and had taken seriously the questions, comments, and public concerns expressed by citizens in recent days.
He stated that morality was greater than position and that there was no greater power than public trust. Gurung also referred to the growing Gen Z-led movement in Nepal, which has been demanding good governance, transparency, and accountability from public representatives.
According to his statement, the movement has sent a clear message that public life should remain clean and leadership must be responsible. His resignation is being viewed as a significant political development amid increasing public scrutiny over integrity and accountability in governance.
