South Korea said today that North Korea launched multiple ballistic missiles toward waters off the North’s eastern coast.

According to South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff, the launches took place in the morning from the Sinpo area in eastern North Korea. Seoul said it has strengthened its surveillance posture and is closely sharing information with the United States and Japan.

Japan’s Defence Ministry also confirmed that North Korea fired at least one suspected ballistic missile. The latest launches are expected to heighten regional tensions and prompt renewed security coordination among allied nations.
