New Karnataka Government Announces Student Welfare Measures
Senior Congress leader D K Shivakumar was sworn in as the new Chief Minister of Karnataka on Wednesday, bringing an end to a prolonged leadership contest within the party. Shortly after assuming office, he chaired his first cabinet meeting and unveiled a series of welfare initiatives focused on students and youth empowerment.
Senior Congress leader D. K. Shivakumar was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Karnataka on Wednesday, formally taking charge of the state government and marking a significant political transition.
The oath of office and secrecy was administered by Thaawarchand Gehlot at Lok Bhavan. Alongside Shivakumar, 13 Congress legislators were also inducted into the state cabinet as ministers.
The swearing-in ceremony was attended by several senior Congress leaders, including Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi.
Shivakumar’s elevation to the top post brings closure to a long-standing leadership tussle within the Congress, particularly with his predecessor, Siddaramaiah. The transition marks a change of guard in the state’s political leadership and opens a new chapter for the ruling party.
Soon after assuming office, the new chief minister convened his first cabinet meeting and announced a series of youth- and student-centric welfare measures aimed at enhancing educational opportunities and leadership development.
Among the key announcements was the provision of free bus passes for students, a move intended to ease transportation costs and improve access to education. Shivakumar also unveiled plans to establish 10,000 Bharat Jodo Yuva Sanghas, which are expected to focus on nurturing leadership skills among young people and promoting social harmony.
The initiatives underscore the new government’s emphasis on youth engagement, education, and community-building. Political observers see the announcements as an effort to strengthen the Congress party’s connect with younger voters while advancing its social welfare agenda.
The formation of the new cabinet and rollout of early policy initiatives are expected to set the tone for the Shivakumar administration’s priorities in the coming months.
