Myanmar Delegation Visits Sacred Buddhist Sites in Bihar
Myanmar President U Min Aung Hlaing began his five-day visit to India with a visit to Bodh Gaya, where he offered prayers at the Mahabodhi Temple and Sujata Temple, underscoring the deep cultural and Buddhist links between India and Myanmar.
U Min Aung Hlaing arrived in Bodh Gaya on Friday as part of his five-day official visit to India.
During his visit, the Myanmar President offered prayers at the world-famous Mahabodhi Temple, one of the holiest sites in Buddhism, believed to mark the location where Gautama Buddha attained enlightenment.
He also visited the historic Sujata Temple, an important landmark associated with the life of the Buddha.
The President is scheduled to visit several Myanmar Buddhist monasteries in Bodh Gaya during his stay, reflecting the strong spiritual and cultural connections between Myanmar and the Buddhist heritage sites of India.
Earlier in the day, Vijay Kumar Sinha welcomed President U Min Aung Hlaing at Gaya Airport. The visiting leader was accompanied by a high-level delegation comprising senior government officials and Buddhist representatives.
Strengthening India–Myanmar Ties
The visit is being viewed as an important step in reinforcing the long-standing historical, cultural, and religious ties shared by India and Myanmar.
Officials believe the visit will further strengthen cooperation in areas such as cultural exchange, Buddhist heritage preservation, tourism, and bilateral relations.
Bodh Gaya continues to serve as a major centre for international Buddhist diplomacy, attracting leaders, monks, and pilgrims from Buddhist-majority countries around the world.
