Mamata Claims State Agency, Not Central Cops, Nabbed Malda Mastermind
In a significant political escalation, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee declared late last night that the West Bengal CID—not the Election Commission-appointed police—was responsible for arresting Moffakkerul Islam.
Islam, an advocate and former AIMIM candidate, is the prime accused in the violent Mothabari protest where judicial officers were held hostage. The CM revealed that the CID intercepted Islam at Bagdogra Airport as he attempted to flee to Bengaluru. During a rally in Harirampur, she alleged that the BJP “borrowed” the accused from AIMIM to defame Bengal, asserting that her state agencies acted decisively before the NIA could even arrive at the scene.
