West Bengal CM calls for strict monitoring and CCTV access for media at Bhabanipur counting centre

Mamata Banerjee, Chief Minister of West Bengal and leader of the All India Trinamool Congress, on Friday issued a stern warning against any attempt to tamper with the vote-counting process, just hours after inspecting an EVM strong room in Bhabanipur.

Banerjee had visited the counting centre at Sakhawat Memorial School in south Kolkata late Thursday evening, citing concerns over possible malpractice. She remained inside the premises for nearly four hours and emerged around 12:07 am on Friday.

Speaking to reporters after her visit, the Chief Minister emphasized tighter control over access to the counting area. She stated that only one individual—either the candidate or an authorised election agent—would be permitted inside the designated counting zone.

Banerjee also called for enhanced transparency measures, suggesting that CCTV cameras be installed with access for the media to monitor proceedings. Her remarks come amid heightened political tension and allegations surrounding the security of EVMs ahead of the counting process in West Bengal.
