Internal Reservation Within SC Quota Gets Karnataka Cabinet Approval
State to implement 400-point roster system; old recruitment notifications to be withdrawn and reissued
The Karnataka Cabinet has ratified its earlier decisions on implementing internal reservation for Scheduled Castes (SCs) and approved key changes aimed at streamlining recruitment processes across government departments.
Addressing the media after the Cabinet meeting, H K Patil stated that the government reaffirmed its commitment to introducing internal reservation within the existing 15% SC quota. The move is intended to ensure equitable distribution of benefits among sub-groups within the Scheduled Castes.
The Cabinet also approved significant modifications to expedite long-pending recruitment. These include the withdrawal of previously issued recruitment notifications and their reissue in line with the updated reservation framework.
A major highlight of the decision is the adoption of a 400-point roster system, which will govern reservations in government hiring, ensuring better representation and compliance with constitutional provisions.
Patil noted that these decisions were initially taken during Cabinet meetings held on April 16 and April 24, and have now been formally ratified with necessary policy adjustments.
The reforms are expected to accelerate recruitment across departments while reinforcing the state’s focus on social justice and inclusive representation.
