INDIA Bloc Raises Objections to Women’s Reservation Bill

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge said the INDIA bloc supports women’s reservation in principle but opposes the current form of the Women’s Reservation Bill, alleging that the Centre has introduced it with political motives. Speaking after an INDIA alliance meeting in Delhi, Kharge claimed the bill’s provisions linked to delimitation and census leave room for misuse and could be used to suppress opposition parties.

Kharge stated that opposition parties have consistently backed women’s reservation but want earlier proposed amendments to be implemented before the bill moves forward. He also accused the government of centralizing constitutional powers in the executive and warned that changes related to delimitation without a clear census framework could undermine parliamentary and institutional processes.
