Five Bengal Cops Suspended for Alleged Misconduct During Elections
The Election Commission of India has ordered the immediate suspension of five police officers in West Bengal over alleged misconduct and failure to maintain neutrality during the ongoing Assembly elections.
The suspended officers include Sandip Garai, Additional Superintendent of Police, Diamond Harbour; Sajal Mondal, Sub-Divisional Police Officer; Mausam Chakraborty; Ajay Bag; and Subhechha Bag.
The Commission has also initiated departmental proceedings against the officers.
In addition, the poll body issued a warning to Dr Ishani Pal, Superintendent of Police, Diamond Harbour, for allegedly failing to ensure discipline and fairness among subordinate officials.
The Election Commission has directed submission of a compliance report by 11 AM tomorrow.
The action comes amid heightened scrutiny of law and order and administrative neutrality during the high-stakes Assembly elections in West Bengal.
