The Indian National Congress on Thursday officially named V. D. Satheesan as the next Chief Minister of Kerala, ending intense speculation over the party’s leadership choice in the state.

The announcement was made during a press conference attended by AICC in-charge for Kerala Deepa Dasmunsi, party observers Ajay Maken and Mukul Wasnik, along with Congress general secretary in-charge communications Jairam Ramesh.

V. D. Satheesan emerged as the party’s final choice after consultations with senior leadership and legislators. He was considered one of the leading contenders for the top post along with senior Congress leaders K. C. Venugopal and Ramesh Chennithala.

Party leaders said the decision was taken after assessing organisational unity, legislative experience, and leadership capabilities. The Congress leadership expressed confidence that Satheesan would lead the state government effectively and strengthen the party’s position in Kerala politics.

Known for his strong presence in the Kerala Assembly and his role as Leader of the Opposition, Satheesan has been an influential figure within the state unit of the Congress. His appointment is expected to shape the party’s political strategy and governance agenda in the coming years.
