Congress Candidate Raises Concerns Over Election Tension in Bengal
Murshidabad: Indian National Congress candidate from Baharampur Assembly constituency, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, criticised the handling of election-related violence in West Bengal.
He said people in Bengal have regularly witnessed tension before, during, and after elections, adding that such incidents were not new to the state.
Chowdhury said that if violence continues despite the deployment of large numbers of central forces, it reflects shortcomings on the part of the Election Commission of India.
He urged the Commission to be more vigilant during the ongoing Assembly elections.
The Congress leader also alleged that lower-level police officials in the state continue to assist the ruling party in creating fear and tension.
He further claimed that while senior officers may be brought in from outside, effective control over lower-level officials remains a challenge.
The remarks come amid heightened political contest and security scrutiny during the West Bengal Assembly polls.
