Union Home Minister Amit Shah, addressing a public rally in Jalpaiguri, launched a sharp attack on West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and outlined several promises if the BJP comes to power in the state.

Amit Shah said the BJP would work toward a constitutional solution to the long-pending Gorkha issue after the elections and would withdraw what he described as false political cases filed against party workers.

Amit Shah also announced that a BJP government would raise wages of tea garden workers by more than ₹500 within two-and-a-half years of taking office. In addition, he pledged ₹50 crore for development and pilgrim facilities at the Jalpesh Temple and promised to push for inclusion of the Rajbanshi language in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution.
