AIADMK MLA A. Anbalagan Appointed Pro Tem Speaker of Puducherry Assembly

Senior All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam legislator A. Anbalagan has been appointed as the Pro tem Speaker of the 16th Puducherry Legislative Assembly. He will administer the oath to newly elected MLAs ahead of the Assembly’s first session.

Senior All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam legislator A. Anbalagan has been appointed as the Pro tem Speaker of the 16th Puducherry Legislative Assembly.

According to a press release issued by the Legislative Assembly Secretariat, the appointment was made by the Lieutenant Governor based on the recommendation of the Chief Minister.

A. Anbalagan, who also serves as the Puducherry State Secretary of the AIADMK, was elected from the Oupalam Assembly constituency. After formally assuming office as Pro tem Speaker, he will administer the oath of office to the newly elected members of the Assembly.

The dates for convening the first session of the new Assembly have not yet been announced.

The political developments come shortly after the swearing-in ceremony of the Chief Minister and two ministers on Wednesday. However, the ruling National Democratic Alliance is yet to finalise the remaining three Cabinet positions along with appointments for the posts of Speaker, Deputy Speaker, and Government Whip.

The Pro tem Speaker is appointed temporarily to oversee initial Assembly proceedings, including administering oaths to legislators and conducting the election of the Speaker.
