Abhishek Claims Strong Mandate for Mamata-Led Party
All India Trinamool Congress national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee on Saturday expressed confidence that his party would return to power in West Bengal with around 225 seats in the 294-member Assembly.
Addressing an election rally in Bally, Banerjee, widely regarded as the number two leader in the TMC hierarchy, said the party was set for another strong mandate.
He also declared that the BJP would be removed from power at the Centre within the next two to three years.
Banerjee further claimed that the response of Bengali voters to the alleged harassment caused by the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls would become clear when results are announced on May 4.
The remarks come amid intense campaigning as political parties battle for control of West Bengal in a high-stakes election.
