CBI Arrests Five as NEET-UG Probe Deepens Across India
Calls for Education Minister’s Resignation Grow; Plea Filed in Supreme Court Seeking NTA Overhaul
Central Bureau of Investigation on Wednesday arrested five people and carried out searches at multiple locations across the country in connection with the alleged NEET-UG 2026 paper leak case, as protests over the cancellation of the examination intensified nationwide.
The latest arrests came amid mounting criticism of the National Testing Agency and growing demands for the resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan.
During the day, the Federation of All India Medical Association (FAIMA) approached the Supreme Court of India seeking a complete restructuring of the NTA. The plea called for replacing the current examination body with a more technologically advanced and autonomous institution to restore trust and integrity in medical entrance examinations.
The NEET-UG 2026 exam was cancelled after allegations of paper leaks and large-scale irregularities surfaced, affecting more than 22 lakh medical aspirants across the country. The CBI has since launched a nationwide investigation involving coordinated raids, arrests, and examination of digital and financial records.
Political reactions also intensified, with the Indian National Congress and the All India Trinamool Congress alleging that some of those arrested in connection with the case had links with the BJP. The ruling party has not officially responded to the allegations.
Students, parents, and medical aspirants continue to express uncertainty over the fresh examination schedule, counselling timelines, and the future of the entrance process as the investigation widens.
