Bannari fire walk festival held
The annual Kundam (Fire walking) festival was celebrated on Tuesday with religious fervour at Bannari in this district. The popular festival was conducted peacefully at Bannariamman temple, located 10 km away from Sathyamangalam at 3 am.
To participate in this, a large number of devotees from various states including not only Tamil Nadu but also Karnataka (especially from Mysore, Kollehal, Chamrajnagar etc) , Keralam, and Andhra Pradesh, arrived here. Some farmers walked along with their cattle. Some women carried their children with them and walked over the ‘kundam’.
Special buses were operated by the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation for the devotees coming to the festival. More than 500 police personnel were deployed for security to avoid any mishap.
