Southern Railway and Other Zones Expand Onam Special Train Services
Indian Railways has announced 112 special train services between August 14 and September 6 to accommodate the surge in passengers travelling to Kerala for Onam. The services will connect Kerala with major destinations across Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and the eastern region.
The Railways has increased the number of special train services announced for Kerala during the Onam season to 112, aimed at helping passengers travel home and managing the expected seasonal rush. The special services will primarily operate to and from Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, with additional services connecting Kerala to the eastern region.
According to railway information, the special services will operate between August 14 and September 6. The additional trains are intended to provide more travel options for people returning to Kerala for the festival and help ease pressure on regular train services during the peak travel period.
Of the 112 services, 38 special services will operate within the jurisdiction of Southern Railway. Southern Railway has also announced 16 additional special services to other railway zones.
Another 58 Onam special services will be operated by other railway zones during the period, taking the overall number of special services announced for the festival season to 112.
The expanded services are expected to provide additional passenger capacity during one of Kerala’s busiest annual travel periods and facilitate smoother journeys for people travelling home to celebrate Onam with their families.
