Ranchi Student Protest: CBI Probe Demand Gains Political Momentum
Tension prevailed in Ranchi during a student protest demanding a CBI probe into alleged irregularities in Jharkhand recruitment examinations. Police used water cannons, tear gas and lathi charge after protesters allegedly attempted to breach barricades and pelted stones. Former JPSC Chairman L. Khiangte was also arrested.
RANCHI: Tension prevailed in Ranchi during a students’ Vidhan Sabha gherao protest over alleged irregularities in recruitment examinations in Jharkhand. Police used water cannons, tear gas and lathi charge to disperse protesters as the agitation intensified.
According to police, a section of protesters allegedly attempted to break through barricades and pelt stones at police personnel, following which the police used force. Ranchi City SP Paras Rana and SP Rural Gaurav Goswami appealed to the protesting students to maintain peace and said the police had exercised restraint.
The protesters are demanding an independent CBI investigation into the JSSC-CGL examination and comprehensive reforms in the JPSC-JSSC examination system. The agitation has continued amid allegations of irregularities in the recruitment process.
Meanwhile, the Jharkhand CID arrested former JPSC Chairman L. Khiangte in connection with the alleged recruitment examination irregularities. The arrest has further intensified the controversy surrounding the examination system.
Union Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth criticised the police action and reiterated the demand for CBI and ED probes into the alleged irregularities.
The issue was also raised at the Centre. BJP MP from Hazaribagh Manish Jaiswal met Union Home Minister Amit Shah and highlighted the alleged irregularities in the JPSC-JSSC examinations and the ongoing student agitation, seeking a CBI investigation.
Following the police action and the arrest of the former JPSC chairman, tensions surrounding the issue have escalated. The protesting students have maintained that they will continue their agitation until their key demands are addressed.
