Petrol, Diesel and LPG Supply Stable as Centre Reviews Situation
The Government has assured that domestic LPG supply remains smooth across the country, with no dry-out reported at any distributor, amid the evolving situation in West Asia.
Addressing an inter-ministerial briefing in New Delhi, Sujata Sharma said the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas is ensuring uninterrupted supply of domestic LPG cylinders nationwide.
She said home delivery of LPG cylinders is being facilitated and urged consumers to opt for online booking instead of rushing to distributor showrooms. Commercial LPG supply has been restored up to 70 per cent. Officials said over 1.47 lakh LPG cylinders have been sold so far in April, while more than 81,000 five-kg cylinders were sold yesterday alone. Over 1.33 lakh five-kg cylinders have also been sold through awareness camps.
On natural gas supply, Sharma said around 5.27 lakh PNG connections have been gasified, while infrastructure has been developed for more than 2.6 lakh additional connections. Registrations from around 5.97 lakh new consumers have also been received.
She further stated that petrol and diesel supplies are adequate across the country, with no dry-out reported at any fuel station. Referring to panic buying in some areas triggered by rumours, she clarified that supplies are sufficient and diesel prices have not increased.
Officials also said crude oil inventories remain adequate and refineries are operating at optimal capacity.
Meanwhile, Mandeep Singh Randhawa said Indian seafarers in the Gulf region are safe and no incident involving Indian-flagged vessels has been reported in the past 24 hours. He added that the DigiShipping control room has handled over 7,500 calls and more than 16,000 emails since activation, while over 2,700 Indian seafarers have been safely repatriated so far.
Assem R. Mahajan said the Government is focused on the safety and welfare of the Indian community in the region and remains in constant coordination with states and Union Territories. He added that around 12.38 lakh passengers have travelled from the region to India since February 28.
Randhir Jaiswal said the Ministry of External Affairs is closely monitoring all developments related to the West Asia crisis.
